Hi, I'm Rhiannon James, a New Zealand based artist who creates contemporary art,

inspired by conversations of the mind.

...my mind, in particular.

So what’s ok to talk about, and what’s not?

I’m interested in challenging the parts of ourselves we choose to reveal to others.

And what we hide.

My work explores the layers that make us human.

From those deep, dark thoughts and feelings normally scribbled in a journal somewhere,

to surface level smiles we fake at BBQ get-togethers.

Breaking news: Our feelings are delicate, fragile, and layered.

But by acknowledging and exposing them,

bringing them to the surface for what they are

- just thoughts, not facts -

 their power dissipates.

Well, that's great - but it's uncomfortable!

My work explores the power of thought and emotion through mixed media collages and the intimacy of jewellery – a medium traditionally known as treasured keep-sakes, held onto for years, passed down through generations – much like our beliefs and ways of thinking.

Bio

Rhiannon James is a New Zealand born artist who creates mixed media prints and jewellery

inspired by conversations of the mind.

Her work explores the parts of ourselves we choose to reveal to others. And what we hide.

Through mixed media collages and the intimacy of jewellery – a medium traditionally known as treasured keep-sakes, held onto for years, passed down through generations – much like our beliefs and ways of thinking, Rhiannon’s work explores the power our thoughts and emotions have over us.

Rhiannon graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Visual Arts and has exhibited in

both New Zealand and the UK, where she spent her twenties exploring ye olde country inns, before returning to Christchurch, New Zealand with her husband to bring up a fur family.
